Exhibition/Artist talk

The next artist talk and mini-exhibition of Yelena’s work is on Sunday 20th July, 11am, Evo Espresso (Yeronga)

My art is abstract, and for along time I used the intuitive approach of listening to my body, my heart, and picking colours, strokes, and even canvas size based on y own emotional state at the time. In the past I had found that my intellectual approach often inhibited or restricted creative output, so when I began painting, my desire was to remain purely emotional.

Over time, I found my approach changed, with new ideas, more concrete concepts, and the desire to grow, But the basic principle of putting down my emotions in colour remained.
This talk is about my artworks, the colours I gravitate towards and why, what they mean to me. I would also like to share a little bit of an art historical approach, with highly emotive artworks by painters from previous centuries, and how they capture emotions in their work through colour.

So please join me for an informal discussion of how we perceive colour, how we attach meanings to it, and how these notions might be challenged.
